First Quarter Moon Mon. June 29, 2009 Keywords: Challenges, decisions, action.
|
Today begins the first quarter Moon which falls one week from the new Moon. Since it is the first
square between the Sun and the Moon, it can signal crises that call for making decisions and
resolve. It denotes a need for fortitude and determination; a time of challenges and action. This first
quarter Moon, then, is the three day period that we should take action on our intentions, hopes, and
plans for this lunar period. The chart shows Cancer rising with the Moon, ruler of Cancer, in the late
3rd House. Since the Moon is in the Sign of the 4th House and within a conjunction of the 4th Cusp,
I tend to read it as 4th House Moon. Interestingly, last month's first quarter Moon had the reverse
Signs on the 1st and 7th Houses; Capricorn ascendant and Cancer descendant.
Although the 12th House has a bad rap for being the House of self-undoing, secret enemies, and
skeletons in the closet, I view the 12th House as something different entirely. From the viewpoint of
earth, the Sun is rising in the 12th House, big, bright, welcomed (usually). The other planets and the
Moonrise here look bigger than usual and distorted. I think that is more the meaning of the 12th;
bigger than usual, distorted, puffed up, not exactly as they seem. Perhaps that creates self-undoing
and jealousy in others to become secret enemies? Puffed up pride does go before a fall.
Another way to look at the 12th House is that it is cadent or in 3rd place of a series. Cadent Houses
include "communication" within all of their meanings. In a personal birth chart, the 3rd House is
how oneself thinks and communicates; the 6th House is how one's family/tribe thinks and
communicates; the 9th House is how one's community thinks and communicates, and the 12th
House is how one's country in general thinks and communicates. It's a bit different in Mundane
Astrology. Check out MUNDANE ASTROLOGY SIMPLIFIED for planetary and House rulerships.
In this chart, the House ruler of President Obama is the 10th (Aries) whose ruler is Mars who, with
Venus, is semisquare the Sun; in fact I believe that the Sun is exactly semisquare the midpoint of
Venus/Mars. How can we know that for sure? Here's another simple arithmetic problem.
What does this particular semisquare mean concerning the President, how the world thinks, health
care, congress (Venus), conservatives (Pluto in Capricorn 6th)?
To me it means that the President could get a bit of criticism during the next three days and be
irritated as hell with the way some people think and communicate. This chart is really nasty for him;
we have that T-Sesquiquadrate (sesquare) from Taurus to Aquarius planets sesquare the Moon
(citizens). It seems he's getting it from everywhere. Now is time for him to take a deep breath, listen
to inspiring music, relax, and keep his sense of humor. Other people are pitiful sometimes.
