Sabbath Devotionals
Christmas Day
Sat. Dec. 25, 2010
Reading from the New Testament
Luke 2: 13-14

13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel,
praising God and saying,
14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
Reading from the Old Testament
Isaiah 7: 14

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child
and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.
Homily: Christmas  2010.

In every Christian's devotionals, this is truly a Holy Night; the night we have borrowed from the
Astrologers as the time when the Sun is born again every year. After sinking further South upon
rising, the Sun has finally solsticed (stopped) and now rises a bit more North each day until the
Spring Equinox.  The days get longer again.

It's a great debate among some scholars just exactly when Jesus was born. They're not even
certain about the year, much less the day.  December 25 was picked in 440 CE because it fell
upon the old Babylonian/Roman Saturnalia festival already celebrated by the masses.

"Too much study and research may make us doubt our faith," I've heard people say.  I've found that
to be just the opposite.  The more I study and research about Jesus, the more superfluous dogmas
and creeds I can shed and the more the Son of Man stands before me in all his love, compassion,
and glory. I want to know, love, serve, and be like this man of God.

Father and Creator,
We thank you again for the precious life of your Son who drew us closer to you and You closer to
us. May we be ever alert to his calling in our lives and may we be the best that we can be in order to
honor his name and teachings. Let us never forget his birth, life, death, and resurrection all to the
honor and glory of our relationship with him, our Brother, and You, our Father. Amen

Respectfully submitted,
